Did you know that there are over 35 different species of bamboo in Thailand and it’s used in a variety of ways. It is one of the most important plants in the country and also very common in and around the countryside, the villages, the towns and the cities’. If you walk around Chatuchak Market or more commonly known as JJ Market in Bangkok you can find  a huge array Thai handicrafts made from bamboo, it’s a bamboo lovers paradise!

Everywhere you go in Thailand you will see bamboo being used in one or another. Bamboo is used in construction for scaffolding, building houses and rafts, bamboo’s high tensile strength is ideal for these purposes. On many occasions walking around in a Thai village or even in Bangkok I have bamboo scaffolding being used, at the time I didn’t know how strong it was!

Bamboo in Thailand can be used for furniture and tools, many websites have bamboo home ware products made from bamboo.
